The practicals are carried out in the form of seminars.
Bibliography: Organisms Diversity and Evolution - Springer Journal Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution - Elsevier Journal Evolutionary Ecology - Springer Journal Systematic Biology - Oxford Journal
Learning outcomes: Knowledge: student understands the complex phenomena in biology and their linkage with related disciplines; defines and explains contemporary theories and rules related to natural sciences; knows the rules of functioning the organisms at different organization levels; defines and justifies the genetic-molecular and evolutionary backgrounds of biodiversity; understands the diversity of organisms as an effect of genetic potential expressed under various environmental conditions student knows the rules and principles of scientific manuscript preparation, both with respect to factual and formal demands student explains the evolutionary transformations in structure of organisms in the context of changing environmental conditions Skills: student formulates and interprets results of scientific tasks based on collected data; compares the results with those originating from other sources; draws adequate conclusions and provides adequate justification; has the skill of preparation of marketable presentation (both in Polish and in foreign language) of results of studies carried out within the field of biology, in order to do so – makes use of various scientific sources, including electronic data; critically evaluates the credibility and adequately selects the sources; confronts the own ideas with those of other authors and carries out the adequate discussion with the application of scientific terminology from within the scope of biology student makes use of professional literature (both in Polish and in English) from within the scope of biology and related disciplines; presents the critical approach to information provided by mass-media Social competences: student is creative in solving the problems and in acting in systematic and resourceful way student can point to priorities which lead to task realization, considering also the team work student properly solves, in ethical terms, the dilemma of contemporary biology; presents ethical approach in scientific work
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: Grade: the participation of students in discussion during seminars along with the factual aspects of discussion and quality of multimedia presentation will be scored in points (max. number of points: 20, incl. 10x1 - for discussion and 10 - for multimedia presentation). The attendance in seminars is obligatory. In case of absence, student has to pass the adequate topic within the two following weeks. Course grade depends on the number of points scored. Course grade:seminar grade.
